Massive steel block
Acetylene-cut

Two separate massive steel blocks fit smoothly together by means of interlocking protrusions and indentations. The displacement between the two is minimal and serves simply to bring the outline of the combination into sharper contrast. Toward the top the two pieces are pulling away from one another.
Together with ‘Joining-1’, ‘Joining-2’ belongs in Wolf’s series ‘Energy Flow’. The sculpture, consisting of raw blocks, weighs over one tonne and radiates tranquillity and steadiness. In its joined state it conveys an impression of the flow and play of energy – heavy as it is, it seems as if some movement would not be impossible.
The connection within ‘Joining-2’ is primarily technical. Here the play of energy comes from the force that drives the two coupled sections apart rather than attracting them, and in their precise technical character they imply a strong flow of energy. At its top where the blocks pull apart a split opens up – a split brought about by their innate energy. It is this energy which makes the combination not only visible but almost perceptible.
